Today we discussed Britain’s triangular trade slavery system as well as sugar plantations established in the West.  Britain’s slave traders played a huge roll in colonizing the West Indies as well as ruining the social and political stability along the West African Coast.  Tribe masters were paid in exchange for people to be used as slaves.  The horrible conditions this trade left families and individuals behind in Africa without their loved ones.  humans were treated like animals, and any God-given rights were abolished.  Some Africans were used as slaves on sugar plantations in the Caribbean, especially Jamaica.  Others went to Britain for servant purposes.

As a segway to today’s pop culture, there is a movie entitled Belle coming out in theaters soon that covers the life of an African girl, Dido, and her life as a member of an all-white upperclass British family.  Ethics of individuals with great political power are tested as well as interracial romantic challenges of men around her.  I’m looking forward to checking out this movie in the fall!
